How many racist punks out there understand this?
The reason there are so many illegal immigrants here is because the economies and governments of the Spanish speaking countries are so weak and unstable.
Why are they weak? has anyone ever heard of the Monroe Doctrine? America plays a strong role in latin american politics. Our government uses our taxpayer dollars to subsidize corn so it can be sold for less than it cost to produce.
So now the latin american farmers can’t compete, so they lose their farming jobs and come up north to our country for work.
So it’s NAFTA’s fault and we blame the Mexicans. We could just revise our agricultural policy, but no, we have to defend our dumb corn policy with an even dumber plan "Let’s build a wall to keep out the Mexicans and abridge our own civil liberties just to prove a point yeehah!"
Doesn’t anyone get it? If we become a police state, and maintain this stupid corn policy, for what little it is worth considering how it is a risk to our national security directly and indirectly through the destabilization of Latin countries, Maybe Mexico et al won’t want to be our friends anymore: Maybe they’ll drop out of NAFTA, Set up protectionism and stop buying our corn, and we’ll be the ones getting the shaft in the end. If we don’t revise NAFTA, and somehow expect Mexico/Guatemala/Ecuador etc.to take care of its own problems to keep the illegal aliens from flowing in, it’ll hurt us badly! Wake up and smell the coffee.
I know a lot of racists dittoheads on yahoo answers have trouble with words with multiple consonants such as "Unconstitutional" and "Protectionist Policies" but seriously, in your own best interests, consider why Latin America’s problems are so bad that Immigrants want to come to our country of all places. I don’t think an Iron Curtain, or a Berlin wall, or fascist policies of racial profiling have worked before, so why would they work now?
don’t forget, the more we screw over the latin countries, the more vulnerable they are to dictatorships, juntas and druglords. Hint: that’s not good for us. We’re not invincible.
Your reasoning makes sense. Agriculture is a highly subsidized industry in the US. If Mexico can grow its own food, it doesn’t have to rely on imports (which requires money), and more importantly, they won’t seek to make money through drug trade. Without drugs, there wouldn’t be violence or cartels. Without violence or cartels, the kids would not grow up to be potential killers as adults.
However, farmers are a very powerful lobbying force in America. It would be very difficult to cut subsidization to agriculture. Any bill relating to agriculture must be voted on by the Committee of Agriculture before it is sent to Congress. The committee would never allow a cut in government funding to agriculture just for the sake of giving Mexico a chance to compete. They would fight it on the grounds that the US must make sure it can always feed itself, that a basic necessity such as food shouldn’t be relied on foreign countries for. It would never even reach Congress.
NAFTA was a bad idea, anyone who remembers Ross Perot saying ‘do you hear that giant sucking sound’ referring to jobs being outsourced or taken by the trade agreement.
Then they just added to it with CAFTA and also other bad trade agreements with China.

I have never for one moment hid the facts.
Bill Clinton opened the door on the border with NAFTA.
George Bush took the hinges off the door with his Amnesty Program and created a rush of immigrants.
Obama doesn’t know what the hell to do now. But he should bring down the hands of god on that boarder imho.

That doesn’t make any illegal immigrant’s presence in the USA any less illegal. Do you think them fucking up the American economy as a result is acceptable?

They come here for free education, free Medical, low cost housing and to take our jobs. I haven’t seen any aliens picking fruit. They work at Jack in the Box, Walmart, government offices and in construction. Then there are the certain immigrants that get Gov loans to buy American businesses but, don’t hire any Americans.
Lots of the foriegn Doctors you see, got free medical school, to come here and set up practice.
As for the rest of your question…could you please simplify it for me?

I don’t think you are paying attention to what is happening at the
border. Its not the illegal coming through and cutting grass or
picking grapes. It is the illegal killing cops, raping children, shooting
people in convienence stores, stealing cars, shooting ranchers,
raping and murdering women, killing entire families and kidnapping
children, kidnapping adults and killing them when they can’t pay the
ransom, hit and run, the list goes on— and thats only been the past
year or so in the Phoenix area.
Cool the tiresome moralizing and try to think of logical ways to stop
the crime.

If you believe anything you just wrote, I hope to GOD you were not educated in this country.
Put down the Howard Zinn books and ask yourself, "who is the real racist here?"

Please do not blame America for the failure of Mexico. If Mexicans took over America they would make this country into the same grease pit that Mexico is. Everything wuold go to hell. You HAVE to know that??

first, farming is NOT the only job that is available for the border neighbors. second, if you think again, and IF you say that crossing the border illegally and getting jobs here in the US illegally is okay.. it is as if you are supporting the crime. I am not racist, but these are my opinions. yes, what you have stated in your question is true also. NAFTA is a big *ssh*le too and many illegal immigrants may use that as their excuse (cant be for everyone though!). well whatever it is, no one should be racist and prejudice. i mind my own business but when things got tangled up in the government about the amnesty and the arizona new law whatever, i have the right to speak up and you know what, no matter what happens, illegal immigrants should not be disrespecting the laws of the United States and doing crime by whatever excuse.

So what, really, IS the difference between a "legal" and an "illegal" immigrant?
"Legal" means one has gone through one of the predefined paths to citizenship. "Illegal" means one has not.
The reasons the legal paths are there are many, but include:
- Safety of the citizenry (countries usually frown on allowing known criminals to become citizens of their country)
- Proper Access to Government or "Entitlement" Programs (Again, it is nearly universally frowned upon by countries for non-citizens to take unfair advantage of taxpayer funded programs. In the U.S., this includes WIC, various state and federal health care benefits, and food stamp programs. Most of which are obtained with further illegal activity such as identity theft.)
- A legal electorate (many "Illegal" immigrants participate or attempt to participate in local, county, state, and federal elections, thereby skewing the election. What if they were voting against your candidate? How would that make you feel?)
- Protection of the "Illegal" immigrant (in many cases, illegals will take jobs at far less than the minimum wage, which is form of Slavery. Additionally, they have no legal way to complain about a careless or dangerous employer).
This last point is probably the most important.
At one time in U.S. history, there was a group of "employers" that fought against allowing their "employees" to be paid a fair wage (if any) or to complain about their work conditions… or to be free. The way this issue was resolved was when brother turned against brother and fought the U.S. Civil War.
Would you defend slavery or abuse? I know you wouldn’t, but this is one side of the debate that frequently is overlooked.
